Do these buzzwords sound familiar? If the answer is no, then your business may be leaving valuable markets behind.

Some business owners feel like social media is not important and is not vital to their business. While they can certainly run a business without it, they are also isolating themselves from a large marketing opportunity that will continue to grow larger over time.

As an example, some realtors think they don’t need to be on social media. The problem they’re running into is that Millennials see it as part of regular life. Social media is one of the first places that segment of the market goes to in order to see how established someone is.

If you’re not at least somewhat involved and know what’s going on, then you’re going to lose that part of the market.

If that doesn’t convince you, here are some reasons your business can benefit from social media.

  14. Helps you form partnerships you may not have had access to otherwise
  15. It’s fun. Everyone loves to have fun!
  16. Gives you a modern edge
  17. Keeps your brand relevant
  18. Allows you to stay directly connected with what your customers desire
  19. Gives you a way to connect with other experts in your field and builds community
  20. Social Media gives you the same market access as the big businesses have without requiring elite resources or status.

If you’re new to social media or you’re really only on it from a private standpoint, it’s not something that your business has to suddenly become super involved in overnight. You can ease into it. Once you decide which platform your target market uses the most, open an account and start posting a few times a week, then work up to multiple times a day.

If you don’t want to run it yourself, there are options to get help. Virtual assistants can help. And there are firms that can run social media for businesses. There’s also the hybrid approach, where you run part of it and you have support with some of it as well. No matter what option is right for you, don’t forget that engagement is key.

Social media is all about relationships. In this day and age, you’re bringing validity to your company by connecting and providing value to your target market via social media. You want to have a presence that helps you build trust in your community. If you have a brick and mortar, it’s an extension of what you’d do in person at your store.

As business owners, we owe it to ourselves, clients and customers to grow with the world and use new technology. If we don’t, we’re going to be left behind.

    Excellent article. I agree except for one thing. If it’s about building relationships, and I agree that it is, then having an assistant do it for you will not ring true. Imagine the reaction of a prospective client when they discover they have been having a conversation with an assistant when they thought it was you.

      Thank you so much! You make an excellent point and are spot on about staying true in representing the mission and values of the business. All business interactions must be managed appropriately whether in person or online. When bringing on support or having an assistant it’s so important to create solid processes and procedures around having interaction and engagement with both clients and prospective clients.
